DHI is an independent research and consultancy organisation. DHI's objectives are to build competence and promote technological development in areas relevant to water, environment and health in the fields of ecology and environmental chemistry, water resources, hydraulic engineering and hydrodynamics as well as other related fields. DHI has a total staff of approximately 1000, the majority of whom are professional engineers and scientists with post-graduate qualifications - 35% have a PhD. DHI co-operates with universities in Denmark and abroad. DHI is designated as Collaborating Centre for Water and Health for the World Health Organisation, WHO, and Centre for Water and Environment for the United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP, and furthermore as Advisory Centre for the Global Water Partnership.
